MHI – Q: Do Part D plans cover cancer drugs??

Posted by MedEd at MHI
A: Cancer drugs may be covered by Medicare Part A, Part B or Part D depending on where you receive them and how they are administered.

Any chemotherapy or other cancer drugs received while you are a hospital inpatient will be covered by Part A.

Part B covers any medications that are given by IV or injection in an outpatient setting (doctor’s office or clinic). If you inject the medicine by yourself at home, it would be a Part D covered drug.

Part D also covers cancer drugs taken orally (not administered through an IV or injection).
