MHI – Q: Will Medicare cover me when I travel to other parts of the country?

Posted by MedEd at MHI
A: The answer: it depends. Part A and Part B (your hospital and medical coverage) is accepted throughout the country. The same is true if you have a Medicare Supplement plan. Just be sure to use a provider that accepts Medicare.

It’s more complicated with a Medicare Advantage plan. Although Medicare Advantage plans must cover emergency and out-of-network urgent care, they are not required to cover out-of-network routine care. Consider making a call to your Medicare Advantage plan before you travel to learn your plan’s policy.
