MHI – Q: Are you sorry you joined a Medicare Advantage plan?

Posted by MedEd at MHI
A: Those of you who regret your decision to join a Medicare Advantage plan have a limited amount of time to change your mind. You have an opportunity to return to Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) if you take action during the annual Medicare Advantage Disenrollment Period (MADP). This period begins each year on January 1st and ends on February 14th.

The actions allowed during this time are limited. You can change from a Medicare Advantage plan back to Original Medicare, but you cannot change from one Medicare Advantage plan to another Medicare Advantage plan. Although you cannot change from one Part D drug plan to another Part D drug plan at this time, you will be able to join a drug plan if you are transitioning from a Medicare Advantage plan to Original Medicare.

One last thing to keep in mind – make sure you understand whether you will be subject to medical underwriting if your ultimate goal is to join a Medicare Supplement plan. Questions? Contact our Medicare Education Specialist at 888-708-0123, ext. 6216.
