A: You can order your test strips and lancets through Medicare’s National Mail Order Program for diabetic testing supplies.
Although oral diabetic medications and injectable insulin are paid for by Part D, diabetic testing supplies are paid for by Medicare Part B. Use of this mail-order program for your testing supplies has nothing to do with your Part D drug plan.
In order for Medicare to pay for your testing supplies, you must order them from a supplier who is contracted with the Medicare National Mail Order Program. You would pay the same price through the mail order program as you pay at your local pharmacy. Once your Part B annual deductible is met, you’d be responsible for the 20 percent coinsurance unless, of course, you have a Medicare Supplement plan that will pay that for you.
Use “Find suppliers of medical equipment and supplies” on
www.medicare.gov to search for a contracted mail order supplier.
